Osteoarthritis of the knee

Persistent symptomatic knee osteoarthritis — referred via OAHKS at The Alfred.

Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

X-ray confirmed knee OA (weight-bearing AP, notch, lateral and skyline views)

≥3 months of targeted education, physiotherapy and weight loss (where appropriate) trialled

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Ongoing moderate or severe pain despite ≥3 months of conservative treatment

Functional impairment (work, sleep, ADLs) despite ≥3 months of conservative treatment

Usually managed in primary care

Knee OA where ≥3 months of education, physiotherapy and weight loss has not been trialled
All knee OA referrals attend the Osteoarthritis Hip and Knee Service (OAHKS) physiotherapist-led clinic
