Bayside Referral Assist

Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

Hip pathology with appropriate imaging (AP pelvis + lateral, weight-bearing) and primary-care work-up

Red flags

Indicate urgent (Category 1) referral or emergency assessment.

Acutely septic prosthetic joint — refer to ED

Joint dislocation — refer to ED

Suspected acute bone infection — refer to ED

Suspected fracture, or fracture requiring manipulation or operation — refer to ED

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Existing total hip replacement with new pain, loosening or other concern

Developmental dysplasia of the hip

Avascular necrosis of the hip

Hip pain/functional impairment despite ≥3 months of education, physio and weight loss where OA and infection excluded

Suspected malignancy of the hip or thigh

Usually managed in primary care
