Pain and instability in hind foot

Hind foot pain or instability (e.g. tibialis posterior dysfunction).

Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

Standard history and examination, X-ray (AP & lateral foot, weight-bearing); check tibialis posterior

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Persistent symptoms despite footwear modification, orthoses and physiotherapy

Usually managed in primary care
