Pain and deformity in forefoot (including bunions)

Hallux valgus / forefoot pain.

Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

Standard history and examination, X-ray (AP & lateral foot, weight-bearing); check tibialis posterior

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Persistent pain or progressive deformity despite footwear modification, orthoses and (where indicated) steroid injection

Usually managed in primary care
