Basal thumb arthritis

First carpometacarpal (CMC) joint osteoarthritis.

Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

Standard history and examination, with X-rays (AP & lateral) of the thumb

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Persistent pain or functional impairment despite NSAIDs, activity modification, splinting/physio and steroid injection

Usually managed in primary care
