Haematuria

Haematuria — referral criteria for Urology services.

Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

Clinically suspected or confirmed haematuria with initial primary-care work-up completed

Red flags

Indicate urgent (Category 1) referral or emergency assessment.

Severe urinary tract bleeding

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Any visible haematuria

Persistent microscopic haematuria: at least 2 episodes confirmed through midstream specimen of urine collected at least a week apart

Microscopic or macroscopic haematuria in the absence of a urinary tract infection
