Discharging ear — referral criteria for ENT services.

Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

Clinically suspected or confirmed discharging ear with initial primary-care work-up completed

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Non-painful discharging ear for longer than 2 weeks that fails to settle with treatment

Otorrhea clear discharge

Cholesteatoma

Usually managed in primary care
