Eligibility

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.

Children under 16 years of age. Children under 16years of age require referral to Royal Children’s Hospital

Burns expected to heal in < 14 days

Burn wound assessment including depth & size. Find instructions here. Additional information:

Patients with hypertrophic, raised or keloid scar or scar contractures following a burn injury

Are experiencing functional impairments from burn scars

Cosmetic concerns resulting from burn scars

Have scarring from a burn injury that is symptomatic of pain or severe itch

Have ongoing medical needs related to burns, such as pressure garments or laser therapy for scar revision

Red flags

Indicate urgent (Category 1) referral or emergency assessment.

Routine referral criteria

Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.

Initial primary-care work-up complete (history, examination, baseline investigations per Alfred guideline)

Symptoms persist or progress despite primary-care management

Usually managed in primary care
