Stinging insect allergy
Insect sting reactions where venom desensitisation may be appropriate. Blood (specific IgE) or skin testing is performed at The Alfred.

At least one must be met for the patient to be eligible for referral.
Red flags
Indicate urgent (Category 1) referral or emergency assessment.
Routine referral criteria
Determine Category 2 or 3 urgency.
Usually managed in primary care
- Document careful history of the sting episode (insect type if known, time interval to reaction, severity).
- Document anaphylaxis if present and any adrenaline autoinjector already prescribed.
- Children under 18 are not seen at Alfred Health — refer to a paediatric service.
